Logistics and operations, in terms of transport organisation, will remain unchanged. The parents/guardians shall apply for school transport either directly at their respective Independent School, through the school transport organisers or directly with transport providers.
How do I apply for Free School Transport for Independent Schools?
The parents/guardians shall apply for school transport either directly at their respective Independent School, through the school transport organisers or directly with transport providers. Parents will be requested to fill in and sign two official GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) documents entitled Form A and Form B.
Who are the official school transport providers enrolled in the scheme?
A list of the official transport providers who signed the Agreement with MFED to offer free school transport services for non-state schools is available below.
By using the services of any of the listed official transport providers, parents can be assured that they will not be asked to pay any deposits or fees in relation to school transport.
Do I have to inform the Ministry once transport is booked?
No, the service providers themselves will be registering their routes with the Ministry so that the Government can pay for their services accordingly.
Can I book transport for the morning or afternoon trip only?
Yes, transport can be booked either for the AM trip only, or the PM trip only or for both trips as needed.
How are pick up/drop off points and times determined?
Pick up / Drop off points and times are to be agreed between the parents/legal guardians and the transport providers.
What do I need to do if I intend to keep using the services of this year’s (2021/2022) service provider for the upcoming scholastic year (2022/2023)?
All you need to do is speak with your driver/provider to ensure that you child is booked for the upcoming scholastic year. Parents will still be requested to fill in and sign Form A and Form B.
Parents/Guardians that book school transport with the approved service providers will NOT be required to pay for the school transport providers. The Government will pay the transport service providers directly on behalf of the parents.
Vehicle Monitoring and Student School Transport Attendance
School transport vehicles operating the school transport for Indepedent Schools will be equipped with a monitoring device that will provide the Ministry for Education and Employment online monitoring of the school transport vehicle whilst providing the school transport service.
Parents/ guardians shall be given a mobile application which will provide parents/guardians with:
- a notification of when the student boards the school transport vehicle
- a notification of when the student leaves the school transport vehicle
- the possibility of sending any complaints regarding the fob to the Ministry for Education and Employment
The student shall be given a fob (at no expense to the parent/guardian) to be attached to the school bag.
The mobile application does not work if the fob is not available with the student when boarding and/or leaving the school transport vehicle, hence the student is to always carry the fob with him/her. If the student fails to carry the fob, the system will not function and hence the parents/guardians will not be notified through the mobile application.
The Government is financing and improving the transport service given to students attending Independent Schools. Parents/guardians will be kept accountable for the proper use of this free transport system. Should the student fail to use the transport service for up to 75% of the scholastic days, the parent/guardian should provide a justification for such absenteeism, and use of the free service for that particular child will be re-considered.
